Saw an amazing sunset over the river today then walked around to their main fountain square where they had the whole set up going for a big party: tables, food, stage, music system, lights, street decorations, etc. Had a couple of glasses of their Laos Gria (which is their version of Sangria I guess), felt bored and went home around 8pm. Stayed up reading, then had a compulsion to bring my blog up to date, which I was in the process of doing when the fireworks outside started announcing that 2009 is upon us. Fireworks were very nice and right on top of our heads and lasted for half an hour. After they ended we headed back inside, and now it’s 2 am, my blog is well and truly up to date, Will is asleep so it is time for me to follow suit, after a couple more chapters. I guess you could say as far as festivities go this is the most quiet New Year of my life but on the grander scheme of things, i.e. travelling across SE Asia and being caught in Vientiane, Laos on New Year is probably the most exciting New Year of my life, it is all a matter of perspective.
