Jungle adventure

Grateful for:

  1. Sleeping in the tent in the middle of a jungle!
  2. Waking up early morning to the calls of birds… and a family of resident howler monkeys.
  3. Seeing lots of wildlife on our drive through the jungle national reserve – turkeys, foxes, family of black hairy pigs and monkeys.
  4. Walking for at least 3 hours straight around the massive jungle complex of Calakmul, spotting stelae, monkey, turkeys, but rarely any people!
  5. Climbing to the tops of Mayan pyramids for an awe inspiring vista of the jungle around was unforgettable.
  6. Seeing a massive ant nest migration in process, it was incredible, like a small river of ants crossing the trail.
  7. A nature reserve and largest ruin complex in one, Calakmul was a perfect spot to feed both of our top 2 reasons for traveling.
  8. Visiting multiple other ruins in the area for the past 3 days, each with a unique feature and story.
  9. Seeing an awesome difference between the road through the jungle in the morning and then in the afternoon. Nature is a true artist.
